Airport Ground Power Unit (GPU)

A GPU provides electricity to an aircraft when:

• it is parked at the gate or on the apron,
• the engines are turned off,
• ground crews want to avoid using the aircraft’s fuel.

It powers systems such as:

• cabin lighting
• avionics and onboard computers
• air conditioning
• maintenance systems
